Humanitarian Hall of Fame raises $9,000 through fantasy football raffle

BSU sport ethics curriculum and Optimist Football complex expansion will benefit

BOISE, Idaho, Sept. 23, 2005 – Boise’s World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame (www.sportshumanitarian.com), which promotes humanitarian ideals in amateur and professional athletics, has raised $9,000 through its annual Fantasy to Reality Football Raffle.

Over 2,500 tickets were sold throughout the Treasure Valley for the 2005 raffle, which concluded Aug. 27 with the Optimist Youth Football Jamboree at Bronco Stadium.  Proceeds will benefit a new sports ethics curriculum at Boise State University and will help the Treasure Valley Optimist Youth Football program expand their football complex in Boise.

Raffle winners received trips to a number of prominent sporting events around the U.S. including the ESPN Heisman Trophy Announcement Ceremony in New York and the BCS National Championship Game at the Rose Bowl.

“We’re ecstatic with the generosity of the Boise community,” said Kim Seewald, executive director of the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame who’s inductees include tennis great Arthur Ashe, major league baseball pioneer Jackie Robinson, NFL coaching legend Tom Landry, the NBA’s David Robinson, and soccer great Pelé.  “This will go a long way to improving the Optimist Football complex and to support BSU’s new sports ethics curriculum.”

Beginning this fall, the new certificate program in sports ethics, coaching and humanitarian studies will offer credit and non-credit courses through Boise State’s Department of Kinesiology in collaboration with the University of Idaho and Idaho State University.  The program was developed with the support of the Humanitarian Hall of Fame.

Top raffle winners included Brent Koetter of Boise who received tickets and airfare to the ESPN Heisman Announcement Ceremony in New York City and Tony Saras of Meridian who received mid-field seats to this year’s BCS Championship Game at the Rose Bowl.

Other raffle winners included Lonnie Park of McCall who won a trip to the Sept. 3 Boise State - Georgia game in Atlanta, and Jack Helm of Boise who won a trip to the Sept. 3 Texas Christian - Oklahoma game in Norman.  Dave and Jean Croft of Eagle were winners of tickets to the Sept. 17 Tennessee - Florida game in Gainesville and  Brian Nyland of Boise was the winner of tickets to a Dallas Cowboys home or away game of his choice.
