About The World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame

Board of Directors | Selection Committee | President

Honor:  The World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame honors individuals and organizations from the world of amateur and professional athletics who, through their humanitarian efforts, distinguish themselves as role models in the community. A national selection committee of well known media and sports figures annually chooses three world-class athletes for the impact of their humanitarian work, strength of their foundation and unique nature of their community service.

Origin:  The World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame was founded in 1994 by retired collegiate basketball coach Myron Finkbeiner of Boise, Idaho, who sought to answer the question; "Where are all of the good guys in sport?" The World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame is the only organization of its kind that honors athletes across all sports for their humanitarian leadership.

Inductees: The Hall's first class in 1994 included tennis immortal Arthur Ashe, golf legend Chi Chi Rodriquez and Olympic gold medalist Rafer Johnson.   More than 40 sports-humanitarians have now been enshrined in Boise, including Major League Baseball pioneer Jackie Robinson, NFL coaching legend Tom Landry, the NBA's David Robinson, soccer great Pelé and the Harlem Globetrotters.

Location:  Like the Pro Football Hall of Fame (Canton, Ohio), Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (Springfield, Mass.) and National Baseball Hall of Fame (Cooperstown, N.Y.), the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame is located in a mid-tier American market – Boise, Idaho, alongside the blue turf of Boise State University’s Bronco Stadium.

Inspiration: The Hall is the inspiration behind Boise's Roady's Humanitarian Bowl. It's Humanitarian Awards program annually recognizes exceptional community-focused organizations and leaders from Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association, National Football League, National Hockey League, Major League Soccer, NASCAR, NCAA, Olympic Games, youth sports groups and other organizations.

Non Profit: The World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is open weekdays to visitors and humanitarians of all ages.
