Steve Largent, who with the Seattle Seahawks became one of the NFL’s most prolific receivers and went on to serve the state of Oklahoma through the U.S. House of Representatives, was inducted into the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame along with National Baseball Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew and NBA World Champion and Olympic gold medalist Steve Smith as a part of the Class of 2006.
In 14 seasons and 200 games with the Seattle Seahawks, the 5-11, 187-pound Largent became one of the NFL’s most prolific receivers, setting six career records - most receptions (819), most consecutive games with a reception (177), most yards on receptions (13,089), most touchdowns on receptions (100), most seasons with 50 or more receptions (10) and most seasons with 1,000 yards or more on receptions (8), and earning seven Pro Bowl appearances. In 1995, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Following his Seattle NFL career, Largent served seven years as a member of the United States Congress, representing Oklahoma’s First Congressional District and in 2002 ran for Governor of Oklahoma. Since 2003, Largent has served as President & CEO of CTIA -The Wireless Association.
Throughout his life, Largent has been active in the community. At Tulsa, he was a Young Life student leader, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was named one of eight Outstanding Seniors by the school's alumni board. His community service also includes work with Children's Hospital - Seattle, Young Life, Salvation Army, Wheelchairs for the World Foundation and Habitat for Humanity. Largent's efforts on behalf of CTIA include work with the National Domestic Violence Hotline, -Amber Alerts/National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
